Questions about...Rules

When should I arrive?

Doors open at 7:00 p.m.  Since you have already chosen your table, you can relax and know your spot with your friends is saved (although you still do need to pick your specific seat!)  But this is a great chance to socialize, take pictures while you still look fresh, enjoy delicious appetizers, and learn the lay of the land!

A buffet-style dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m., and no students will be admitted after 8:00 p.m., so please plan for traffic accordingly!

What if I bought a bid, but no longer want to come?

If you have not checked in by 8:00, a faculty chaperone will call your parent/guardian to make sure nothing happened to you, and know that you have made alternate plans for the evening.

What if I bought two bids, but I no longer plan to bring my guest?

Unfortunately, there are no refunds, as we have already used your bid money to purchase your meal, pay for the DJ, decorations, etc.  We apologize for the inconvenience, but encourage you to invite another guest!

I already gave you a guest's name...can I still change?

Please inform the chaperones at the registration table of your new guest's name, so we know who's really here with you.

When may I leave?

Doors re-open at 10:30 p.m., and you are welcome to leave any time between 10:30 and 11:00.  Please note that the SENIORS will be taking a whole-class photo at 10:30, so if you are part of the Senior Class, please do not leave until after you have posed for your group photo!

What if I can't get picked up right away?

Please find a ride who CAN get you!  We hire off-duty sheriffs to be our security, and only have them contracted through 11:15 p.m.  Please make sure your parent/guardian picks you up promptly at 11:00!  Anyone who stays longer than 11:15 will be fined to cover cost of the sheriffs' overtime.  Encourage your ride to factor in time for traffic!

What is the school's policy regarding alcohol/drug use?

We have an absolutely ZERO-TOLERANCE policy.  As stated on the permission slip signed by your parent/guardian:

"For the protection of all guests, all illegal activities such as smoking, drinking alcohol and/or using other drugs are strictly prohibited before, during and after the dance.  Violation of this rule or any other school rule will result in serious disciplinary action, whether it is the student OR her guest who commits the violation."

In other words...please don't ruin what will undoubtedly be a wonderful evening with irresponsible choices.  This is a school-sponsored event, and you are expected to act in a manner befitting an Immaculate Heart student!

Will my bag be searched?

Yes.  Our security personnel (off-duty sheriffs) will check your bags as you come in to make sure you aren't carrying anything that violates any school rules.  You shouldn't need to bring much, though -- so pack light!

How much money should I bring?

If you are driving yourself to the dance, valet parking is $10 + tip money.

Other than photos, everything has been paid for already, so there is no need for money that evening.  In fact, since you already received photo order forms in section, you can prepare your money in advance, seal it in an envelope, and not have to worry about anything else!

Questions about...Clothes

What should I wear?

This is a semi-formal event (despite the "formal" name!) so dresses, nice skirts/tops, or other dressy evening clothes would be appropriate.  We trust the ladies to select appropriate clothing, with the following restrictions:

Backless / Low Cut ensembles are not allowed

No clothing that exposes the Midriff

       Formal Shoes should be worn

Ensembles will be checked for appropriateness as you first come into the dance.

What should my guest wear?

Ladies should follow the guidelines listed above.

Gentlemen should wear suits, or shirts/ties and dress slacks.  Dress shoes are required, and tennis shoes/sneakers are NOT permitted.

Is my outfit weather-appropriate?

Note that it will be a cold -- potentially rainy -- evening, currently forcasted to be in the mid- to low-40s.  Please come wearing a warm coat (and umbrella, although the rain should stop by midday.) but know that our dance is completely indoors, so once you're inside, it will be the perfect temperature!

We will NOT have a coat check room, but, since you already have an assigned seat, you can leave your coat here while you dance.

Click here to check up-to-the-minute weather at the Omni

The theme is "Diamonds are Forever" -- do I have to wear diamonds?

Only if you want to!  You may accessorize your outfit in whatever way you'd like.  However, please feel free to show off your bling if you've got it!

Questions about...Parents

Can my parents come up to the dance?

Only IH students and their guests will be allowed up to the second floor of the hotel, where the dance takes place.  However, parents are welcomed to park their cars (valet is $10, or they may find other self-park lots and walk back to the Omni) and eat in the lobby restaurant while they wait.

How will I find my parents again at the end of the dance?

Everyone will come down to the lobby at 11:00.  Your ride may come in and find you, or may come through the horseshoe-shaped driveway to pick you up, but they may not linger in the driveway if you're not ready -- otherwise, traffic backs up onto Olive St.!  It might be easiest to make a call at the end of the day.

Questions about...Food

I know it's a dinner-dance, but should I eat before the event?

The "Diamonds are Forever" committee has chosen a range of dishes that we think will be delicious, sophisticated, yet unpretentious!  Meals will be served in buffet format, so you can only choose your favorites -- so we recommend you come hungry, because the meals you've already purchased should be great!

I'm a vegetarian!  Will there be food for me?

Some of our "Diamonds are Forever" committee members are vegetarians, too -- so they made sure that there would be lots of great things for you to eat!

I have food allergies -- how will I know if the food is safe to eat?

If you have any questions about the ingredients in any food item, ask

any of the Omni catering staff and they will check in the kitchen for you.

Questions about...Photos

I got a photo order form in section on Thursday--now what?

That's a price list to show you what various packages will cost.  If you already know what you'd like to order, your parent/guardian can write a check for the exact amount (payable to Dlugolecki Photography), seal it in an envelope, and you're done!

I lost my photo order form!  Now what?

There will be plenty of extra forms available at the dance!  Don't worry!

Do my guest and I both need order forms?

No.  You only need one order form per pose.  Please place the order in an IH student's name (and not through the guest's name) because photos will be delivered directly to IH.

Can I order all my photos on the same order form?

No, you'll need to submit one form per pose.  So - your couple shot needs to be on a different paper on your friend/group shot, and so on.

How will you keep the photo line nice and short?

When you first come in, you'll have a chance to pick up a photo appointment card (like Disney fastpass!) -- so if your pick up a card that says "9:15" - you won't need to leave the dance floor until 9:10 or so.  (Earlier if you want to stop and powder your nose in the restrooms!) There will also be three photographers working simultaneously -- that way, everyone will get in and out and back to the ballroom as soon as possible!

When's the traditional Senior Class photo?

Mr. Dlugolecki will meet seniors outside in the foyer at 10:30.  If everyone shows up right away, and gets into place quickly, we'll have you back out to the dance floor for the last few songs in no time!

I'm not a Senior...can we take a class photo, too?

That's kind of an unofficial senior privilege...but you can take a photo with your group of friends!

May I bring in my own camera to snap candids at the table?

Please do!  And if you have any photos that you particularly like, we'd love it if you passed them along to the ASB Historian, so she can post them on the bulletin boards outside the media building.

Questions about...Music

Who's the DJ?

The "Diamonds are Forever" committee is SO excited to welcome back DJ Jay, who provided the music at our Welcome Dance (The BASH!) and last year's Welcome Dance (A Public Affair) and Winter Formal (Live for the Present).  We love DJ Jay, and trust him to make great music choices!

How does he know what to play?

The student council put together a song list during our most recent meeting.  This has been sent to the DJ company (Better Music Services), and they're building our songlist based on our requests and other things they think we'd like as we speak!

Why do you insist on radio edits?

Remember that this is a school event -- we can only play clean versions (radio edits of songs) -- and remember that your teachers are your chaperones!  Do you really want them to see you singing the words to some of those songs?

Do the same dancing rules apply as The BASH?

Absolutely!  Have fun, but respect yourself!  This is a formal event, and we want all of you to look like the strong women of great heart and right conscience that we know you are!  Please think about the message you're sending with your dancing.  Remember your teachers are watching!

Can we approach DJ Jay at the dance with last-minute song requests?

Sure - but know he may not have time to play them, or may not have a clean version.  But you're welcome to ask if you haven't heard your favorite once dancing begins!

Questions about...The Court

Who's on the "Diamonds are Forever" court?

There are 12 lovely ladies total -- 3 each from all 4 grades.

When will we find out whom the class chose as princess?

ASB will present the court at the end of dinner (about 8:50 pm).  The names of the princesses are in sealed envelopes that no one (but the sealer of said envelopes!) has seen.  That means everyone at the dance will find out who has been chosen at the same time, when all four ladies are crowned princesses!

I'm not coming to the dance!  When will I find out?

The court and princesses will be reintroduced at the all-school Christmas program on Thursday, December 20th.  Can't wait that long?  There will also be a brief P.A. annoucement on Tuesday morning.

Questions about...everything else!

Is it true we don't have school the next day?

Yes!  The High School is having a faculty inservice on Monday the 10th, so you may sleep in, rest, relax and rejuvinate!  However, if you have a little sister or friend at the Middle School, they ARE in session on Monday.  But high schoolers...we'll see you on Tuesday morning!

I didn't buy my bid in advance...can I buy one at the door?

No - off campus dances are presale only.  We needed to get a specific number to the catering department to prepare food, set tables, etc.  But we certainly hope to see you at Winter Formal 2008!

When will we hear about spirit points?

The class with the greatest percentage of attendance at "Diamonds are Forever" will receive 100 spirit points.  Although we've already presold all the bids, spirit points will be awarded based on actual attendance.  The ASB COPR will make a spirit point announcement on Tuesday morning.

I want to change my table!  May I?

No.  We've sent specific counts over to the catering department at the Omni, so the tables have been set up with your preassigned table in mind.  Please eat at the table you've chosen!  But once dancing starts and people are moving up and around, you may feel free to wander around and visit your friends.

Who are the faculty chaperones?

You'll see!

Help!  I didn't find my question here!

If you still have questions that need answering, you may email the Director of Student Activities (Ms. Buckowski) at mbuckowski@immaculateheart.org during the weekend, and she will get back to you as soon as possible!

(She's helping ASB set up for the dance on Sunday morning/afternoon, so very last-minute questions may not get answered...but she'll try!)
